    1993/96

    Sets up first studio on s. 19th street in Philadelphia just off of Rittenhouse Square in 1993. Begins painting the Three Graces series of works usingTibetan patterns overlaid with Raphael's version of the Three Graces.  The series made of individual paintings and small screen-print editions on paper and canvas.

    1998

    Marries Karen Duble in May,1998 and starts the large Adam & Eve painting.  Completes the Adam painting (right) first but then moves his studio to s. 20th street. Completes the Eve painting (left) 6 months later. The painting makes references to 4 painters in each corner: Johns, Picasso, Matisse and Van Gogh.  The figures represent the moment of creation - so new that Adam without skin, marveling as to the purpose of the found leaf.

    2000

    Takes an entire year (1999) and a portion of the next to make the large painting: The Raft. It's a take on Théodore Géricault's painting of the same title. The painting is so large that it must be disassembled in order to remove it from the art studio.

    Sept. 11, 2001

    Immediately after 9/11, begins the Imaginary Botanical series starting with small watercolors.  The brightness and colors are used as a reaction against that day.  Working with the specimen collections from the Academy of Natural Sciences, the idea of type specimens enters the work.  The series continued for the next decade.

    2003

    As a reaction against the Iraq war, produces the very large Aggressive Nature painting (the largest painting to date at 8'x15').  Publicly displayed in May of 2003 in Daffy's Art Window in downtown Philadelphia along with the quote: "The first step towards peace is accepting man's own aggressive nature."

    2008

    Begins a new series: The Bathers based on the Large Bathers in the Barnes Foundation and will continue for the next ten years.  The series culminates in the publication: "Craig Stover ~ Bathers".  The series, originally referenced many figures but reduced down to just 3 (artist, wife and child) on vacation off the coast of Maine.

    2016

    Referencing political turmoil from the 2016 elections and subsequent years, the artist produces the series of Fight Club and Warriors prints.  These prints are then show together in October 2017 at the first exhibition dedicated to just prints.  The poses of several of the figures are inspired by ancient Greek pottery.

    2020

    The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns are at the beginning of the Sentinels series.  Over 100 large drawings on paper with several smaller paintings complete the series.  These large, abstracted warrior figures explore the power and possibilities of imagination.
