about
the art and artist
Craig
Stover lives near the banks of the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. His studio is located in the Art Museum Area of the
city. Influenced by the great masters of art that fill the museums
a few blocks away, he produces work that often contain art historical
references and hidden narratives .
Preferring
to work in series, the artist has created works of art on such classic
themes as The Three Graces, Adam and Eve, Odalisques, Saturn and
various other mythologies. After 2001, he invented his Imaginary
Botanicals and Phantom Animals. Through all of this,
the artist's work remains both autobiographical and socially introspective.
Visitors are welcome to read the artist's art-book recommendations to learn about some of his inspirations. Also of interest are the artist's notes on his Imaginary Botanicals series.
Craig
has also worked with many distinguished organizations such as Creative
Artists Network (now the
Center for Emerging Visual Artists), The
Philadelphia Art Alliance, The
Avenue of the Arts, the
Snyderman-Works Galleries, Woodmere
Museum of Art, Cheltenham
Center for the Arts, the
Academy of Natural Sciences, The
Fairmount Art Center, Manayunk
Arts Center, Arts
& Business Council of Greater Philadelphia and is currently the Executive Director of Allens Lane Art Center.
